These are some of my earliest poems and short sketches, written from when I was 17 to when I was 22,
mostly in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Everything is scanned from the originals so is full of odd little sides notes, mistakes, corrections and tea stains. But I rather like that.
They often reveal the influence of Franz Kafka. Or rather, they are drowning, gloriously, in his wake...
Obviously some are a bit weak and unfinished, but I included them here just out of interest.
Even the weak ones say something. Everything is presented in alphabetical order, just because its easier. 'A war with God' and 'Attrition with Gods' are almost the same story, with some small differences. I am not sure why I wrote these two versions now. Several of these were made into visual versions, that I published in the 2005 collection of comics, called 'Beautiful Things'. One of two were also made into songs, with the band I did in Edinburgh in the mid 90s, like 'Forever Child'.
